You can spend an evening researching agents and still have no idea whom to query next. A long list of names is easy to collect. A list you can explain, agent by agent, takes more work.

Write Query Hook is our answer to that problem. If you are looking for a QueryTracker alternative because finding suitable agents takes too much time, WQH gives you a stronger starting point: ranked matches for the book you actually wrote. QueryTracker remains useful when you want to study other writers' reported query experiences.

We make WQH, so this is our product comparison. We checked the linked competitor documentation on November 5, 2026.

Find agents for your manuscript

Imagine two writers selecting adult fantasy. One has a quiet, folklore-inspired novel about grief. The other has a military fantasy with a large cast. A shared genre label does not make their ideal query lists interchangeable.

Smart Match uses genre, subgenre, format, themes, comparable titles, and audience to rank agents. You can filter by country and submission status, inspect an agent's details, and save the people you want to pursue. WQH's database covers over 3,300 literary agents.

That is the reason to choose WQH. The search starts with the details that distinguish your manuscript. You spend your research time evaluating relevant candidates instead of repeatedly narrowing a broad genre list.

A match is a research lead. Read the agent's current guidelines and interests before sending anything. A ranking cannot predict whether an agent will love your pages.

An excellent fit who is closed to queries cannot go in today's batch. WQH refreshes agents' open and closed statuses every 24 hours and lets you filter your results by submission status. Check the official submission page before sending, since an agent can close between updates.

Once you have results, you can save agents to your Query Dashboard or download a spreadsheet with your agent results already filled in. Full results and spreadsheet downloads require a subscription. You do not have to retype the research to make an offline working list.

QueryTracker also offers exports. Its Premium feature page lists query-list CSV downloads, advanced search, and query timelines. The reason to use WQH is how manuscript matching, saved agents, and the populated export work together.

Keep your queries organized

Querying a second book adds another set of agents, notes, and follow-ups. In WQH, each project has a profile and a Query Dashboard. You can edit the manuscript traits, find agents for that project, and track its submissions without mixing them with another book.

Project-specific recommendations also help you return to the search with your book's details already in place. Your memoir and your children's novel can have different profiles and different shortlists.

QueryTracker supports multiple manuscripts too. Its project documentation describes separate query lists, with one project on a standard account and up to 20 on Premium. WQH adds manuscript profiles and project-based recommendations to that organizational job.

Two agents can look like excellent fits and work at the same agency. WQH warns you when another saved agent matches that agency, including saved agents in other projects. The warning groups those agents by project and appears while you research and save, as well as in the dashboard.

The check includes agents still in your research stage. That makes it useful before you have sent a query. It also means a warning does not necessarily mean you have already queried that agency. Review the saved records and the agency's policy.

QueryTracker has an Agency Queries feature as well. It cross-references recorded queries and can include all projects when that option is selected. WQH checks saved-agent overlap earlier in the process. Neither indicator replaces reading the agency's submission rules.

Where QueryTracker helps

QueryTracker's response data can help you understand reported query activity. If you already use its timelines and community information, there is no need to abandon them to use WQH.

Use Smart Match to build your shortlist, then consult QueryTracker when you want another source of context. Keep your own records consistent if you use both. WQH does not automatically import or synchronize another service's query history.

If the part you want to improve is finding agents for your manuscript and organizing the next batch, start with WQH. You can check current plans and full-access features before subscribing.
